There is a meme thought to be a cultural item which is transmitted from one head to another. There are numerous ways to pass them on like writing, gestures, speech, rituals or other occurrences that are imitable. Memes would be the basic building block of our thoughts and cultures in much the same fashion that genes are the basic building blocks of biological life as a result of the way in which that they self-replicate and react to selective pressures.
