Earlier than coming to Salt Lake, Saborio had made a giant transfer to Europe, but had not played constantly and had effectively terminated his personal contract, transferring home to Costa Rica to train. Salt Lake's Rocky Mountain Cup rival traded the longer term Salt Lake captain for Mehdi Ballouchy.
